Reason for becoming a lawyer:
Long story. I worked my way through college fighting forest and brush fires for the L.A. County Fire Department on an Air Attack Crew. Call it part of my Irish heritage. When a heart murmur disqualified me from a permanent position, I looked for a career which would provide the same satisfaction of helping people with problems. (I can't help it if I want to come to the rescue of anybody and anything I meet). Being a lawyer seemed a perfect fit with my personality, too. It's my own Irish mix of blarney along with the ferocity of a Rugby player…either way, it works for me…and my clients.

What I like best about practicing at GKC&J:
I can practice anywhere, as any of my partners can. We choose to stay together because we simply respect and like each other. Also, I have known our managing partner, Jeff Crafts since we were freshman at Loyola. We met during an intramural basketball game. I committed a terrible, terrible foul, literally flipping him when he went up for a jumper. There goes that Irish in me. In spite of that, we became friends. This firm simply sticks together, and so do our clients. It's a great place as a result. If you know of another company so committed to each other and its clients, let me know.

Greatest win/moment:
It's rewarding to listen to a jury verdict in your favor, especially when you've just beat the leading partner from a nationally prestigious firm. It's a better feeling earning the trust of a CEO who calls you with a pressing problem and helping solve it without litigation. But none of that beats coaching a kid who was never expected to walk, and watching her face light up as she scores a goal.

Latest hobby/project:
Writing the biography of Cliff Claven; working title, "The Trivial Pursuit of a Letter Carrier.".

Words of Wisdom:
God hates the peace of those he has destined for war. Translation: Be yourself and fulfill your destiny.
